On America's 250th Birthday, a Veteran-Owned Family Business Reflects on Service, Country, and the Freedom to Build Inventions

For the Berry family behind TargetTack, the Fourth of July is more than a holiday — it's a tribute to generations of service and a country worth celebrating

This Independence Day carries extra weight. The United States turns 250 years old — a milestone few nations ever reach, and one that has the Berry family, founders of the veteran-owned business TargetTack, pausing to reflect on what this country means to them.

For Ben and Julie Berry, the celebration is deeply personal. TargetTack is a family-operated, veteran-owned American company, and the values behind the Fourth of July aren't a seasonal marketing theme for them. They're a family inheritance.

"Two hundred and fifty years," said Ben Berry, who founded the company with his wife, Julie. "When you sit with a number like that, you start thinking about everybody who came before — the pioneers who built this country and the brave people who defended it. For our family, that hits close to home, since our roots started in the early 1600s. This week isn't about us. It's about them, and about being grateful and honoring what other fellow Americans and our ancestors made possible."

A Family Shaped by Service

Service runs through generations of the Berry family. Ben served in the United States Army, and that sense of duty didn't start or stop with him — it stretches back through the family's history, with his 5th Great Grandfather, who fought in the Revolutionary War at 16 years old, down through their daughter Lauren, who served in the Navy into the next generations, who have continued the tradition of wearing the uniform.

It's a legacy the Berrys carry quietly, and one they say shapes everything about how they live their lives and run their business.

"Growing up around service changes you," Berry said. "You learn to respect the people who do hard jobs and make sacrifices. You learn to take pride in your work and to do things the right way, even when nobody's watching. That's the standard we try to hold ourselves to — in how we treat people, our business partners and in how we build what we invent."

That standard is why every TargetTack product is made in the United States. From the flagship TargetTack fastener to the company's gamified paper targets and Snap System, the entire lineup is manufactured domestically and built for the ranges, clubs, archers, marksmen, military, law enforcement, instructors, and families the company serves across the country.

Proud to Build in America

For the Berrys, making their products in America isn't the cheapest path — it's the right one. And on a day that celebrates the country's founding, it's a decision they say they're proud to stand behind.

"There's something meaningful about building here, in this country, with our fellow Americans," Berry said. "It would have been easier to go in another direction. Plenty of companies do, and I understand why. But we believe in American manufacturing, and we believe supporting it is one of the most practical ways everyone who lives here can invest in the future of this country. Every time someone chooses American-made, they're helping keep a family, a job, and a community going. American-made matters, because our future generations matter."

TargetTack itself is a small piece of that story. What began just a few years ago, as a simple idea — a better way to set up and hang targets at the range — has grown into a nationally recognized brand serving archery ranges, firearm ranges, law enforcement agencies, and government training facilities across the nation. Earlier this year, the company was featured as a cover story in InsideArchery, a milestone the Berrys describe with humility.

"We're just grateful," Berry said. "Grateful for every soldier, law enforcement officer, federal agent, range, club, organization, retailer, trainer, and family that's supported us. Grateful to get to do this work with our own family beside us. And grateful, especially this week, to live in a country where a family with an idea can build something real that benefits every target shooter in America."

As the nation marks 250 years, TargetTack is celebrating the way a family business does — with pride, with gratitude, and with a quiet nod to our Fellow Americans who made it all possible. The company's America 250 Sale runs through September 1, but for the Berrys, the heart of this week is simpler than any promotion.

"Happy birthday, America," Berry said. "From our family to yours. Here's to the next 250."
